On April 23, 2026, the South Asian Public Health Association (SAPHA) Advocacy Committee hosted “Breaking the Myths: Addressing Birth Control Misinformation in South Asian Communities,” a virtual advocacy workshop featuring insights from Sohni Pathan, DO, PGY2 OB/GYN. Public health professionals, students, healthcare providers, and community members came together to explore how misinformation about birth control shapes reproductive health decisions in South Asian communities.
The workshop then focused on practical ways public health professionals and advocates can address misinformation in their work, including information on how contraception works, what methods exist, what language is being used, creating space for questions without judgment, acknowledging the social and cultural factors that shape people’s beliefs, and connecting individuals with trusted, evidence-based resources.
This workshop is part of SAPHA’s ongoing commitment to advancing health equity and strengthening advocacy for South Asian communities. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Pathan and to all who joined the conversation and contributed their perspectives, questions, and lived experiences. Juvthorix
